Fifth suspect in Settler murder arrested

  Another suspect in the murder of Laytonville pot grower Jeffrey Settler was taken into custody on Friday, this time in the state of Virginia.

Authorities with the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office say the agency received a call at around 10 p.m. Friday from another sheriff’s office in Willliamsburg, Virginia notifying them they had arrested 27-year-old suspect Frederick Gaestel.

Clear Lake floods shoreline parks

For the first time since California's drought began half-a-decade ago, the waters in Lake County's Clear Lake are forecasted to exceed more than a foot over the flood stage.

 

The rising levels Thursday have caused local parks to close in addition to affecting local roads and properties along the shores. In fact, at about noon on Thursday officials at Clear Lake State Park in Kelseyville announced it would be closed to public access until the waters recede.

Asphalt Plant in Limbo, for now

The Grist Creek Aggregate asphalt plant along Highway 162 and Outlet Creek in northern Mendocino County had a turbulent start and its future is not yet clear. Within its first few month, the owners were hit with multiple county and state violations and litigation by a group of neighbors called Friends of Outlet Creek.
