2/7/2020 Khadijah Britton Still Missing after 2 Years
Mendcino County, CA--February 7, 2020 marks the two year anniversary of the disappearance of Khadijah Britton, a 23-year old Native American Woman from Round Valley, who was taken at gunpoint from a home in Covelo in front of several witnesses. On Saturday, February 8th, family and supporters will gather at the Rec Center in Covelo to raise awareness about Khadijah’s case. Khadijah Britton’s grandfather Ronnie Hostler organized the event.
Round Valley is a tight knit community in the remote reaches of northeastern Mendocino County. Hostler says he believes there are people in the community who know what happened to Khadijah, but who may feel threatened to come forward. An anonymous donor provided money for an $85,000 reward, and the Mendocino County sheriff’s department set up an anonymous tip line through We Tip at 1-800-732-7463. Khadijah’s family and supporters have worked hard to keep attention on her case, hoping that information comes to light that will lead to criminal charges, and answers about what happened to her.
Ronnie Hostler remembers his granddaughter as an athletic girl who struggled to find her way after high school.
Saturday’s rally at the Rec Center in Covelo begins at 12:30 with a welcome by Ronnie Hostler, and an opening prayer at 1pm. It will honor many of Khadijah’s life experiences, with speakers from Red Road, Motherhood and Fatherhood, and The Round Valley Wellness Center. Mendocino County’s new Sheriff Matt Kendall, who grew up in Covelo, will also speak at the event.
A group called the All Voices Choral Project will perform a piece called “Listen to Herstory: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women,” linking Khadijah Britton’s case to the international movement to draw attention to the epidemic of violence against Native Women and Girls.
