On Monday night, CalFire representatives and local officials, announced a firefighter from Utah has died while fighting in an active fire zone on the Ranch Fire. Utah officials have identified the firefighter as Matthew Burchett, a battalion chief from Draper – near Salt Lake City.
Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman, Lake County Sheriff Brian Martin, Sean Kavanaugh of CalFire and Jerry McGowan of the California Interagency Incident Management Team 1, spoke at a brief press conference at 10pm.
Allman asked that people heed mandatory evacuation warnings, saying that the two areas currently under mandatory evacuation are extremely dangerous.
