This hands-on course focuses on growing five high caloric crops: potatoes, dry beans, flour corn, winter squash and quinoa. Twelve bi-monthly sessions span the growing season and include both classroom and field work. Some of the crop yields will be available for participants to take home and taste the satisfaction of their labor. Our resilience as individuals and as a community greatly increases once we gain the skills to grow protein and carbohydrate rich foods -- a step beyond the standard greens and vegetables in our backyard gardens. Learn to fill your belly with a truly satisfying meal -- potato pancakes, cornbread, bean stews -- from the high caloric crops growing in your garden.
