Roots Of Motive Power Shows Off Trains, Cranes & Steam

Sep 10, 2018

Sep 10, 2018 -- The Roots of Motive Power festival in Willits is a celebration of vintage railroad and logging equipment. It sprawls out behind the ballfield and museum and into the park every year, the weekend after Labor Day.

We'll talk with a few enthusiasts, including Troy James, the vice president of the Roots of Motive Power club, and Chris Baldo, co-owner of Redwood Lumber and collector of vintage equipment. We'll climb aboard the Bucyrys-Erie 50-B steam shovel, which was donated to Roots in 1992 by the manufacturer, Guy F. Atkinson. And we'll talk about making art in the street with a steam roller.

Climb aboard!
