A Place To Call Home: Rod O'Meara

Rod O'Meara, sitting next to his poems

Aug 24 --  In this episode of "A Place to Call Home," we'll hear from poet Rod O'Meara, who's been living out of his car in Fort Bragg for about a year. O'Meara is an avid and attentive reader, and makes notes in small, tidy handwriting. He wants to find a small cabin where he can embark on a long healing fast and pray for divine intervention.

Near the end of our conversation, he read a poem about what it's like to be homeless. Homeless people, he told me, experience suicidal depression at very high rates. As he walked me to my car after this interview, he reiterated the most important message: just hang on. You have something no one else has.
