The Appalucians at Caspar Community Center

Roots & All host Jeff Zolitor introdicing the band
The Appalucians

The Friday evening concert with The Appalucians at the Caspar Community Center let those in attendance witness the first fruits of a blossoming world class musical ensemble up close and personal. The sold out KZYX benefit event, and the first offering of the station’s live music concert series, showcased the work of a band from Black Mountain, North Carolina, with roots in Mendocino County.

The Appalucians include two band members from the local favorite the Blushin’ Roulettes, Angie Heimann (guitar and vocals) and Cas Sochacki (dobro and vocals) , and two musicians from North Carolina, Aditi Sethi (bass guitar and vocals) and Jay Brown (guitar and vocals). The bands inception took place at their children’s pre-school where Aditi and Jay’s kids, and Angie and Cas’ kids, both attended.

Included in the ensemble was another former musician from the Blushin’ Roulettes, Kate Stone, who added the superb voice of her cello throughout both sets.

The band members, excellent musicians all, played very inclusive sets, encouraging the audience’s participation throughout the show. And the audience didn’t let them down.

Introducing songs off their debut CD, Bright Hills, they drew the audience into the mind of a songwriter with stories and personal experiences that inform the storyteller as well as the listener.

The sets included songs off their new album, as well as songs by the Blushin’ Roulettes, Jay Brown’s other band, The Lazybirds.
