If your organization is hosting an event or wants to spread the word about a service your organization provides, submit a PSA via the link below for possible inclusion in the Community Calendar that we read on-air or for various times that our local programmers read individual PSAs. After you submit your PSA online, it is sent directly to our staff who reviews your content to make certain that it fits KZYX&Z and FCC guidelines for PSAs. We will make any minor corrections to make sure guidelines are met and the announcement is readable. If there are any major changes or clarifications we will call the contact person listed on the form. Next your PSA will be put into a binder that is organized in order of event date and then placed by the order in which announcements are received. The earlier you submit your PSA the more chances it will have to be read by one of our 130+ programmers who choose which PSA is most relevant to their audience, coupled with an emphasis on equality for all organizations in the KZYX&Z listening area. Keep in mind that there is a high, constant influx of announcement requests and a KZYX&Z Public Service Announcement is a free service to the community and cannot be guaranteed air time. Before you submit a PSA, first read the rules . PSA Guidelines: 1. Your PSA should be 30 words or less. A well-constructed thirty word message is just the right amount of information for the average listener. Sometimes it is best to start writing at the end by letting our listeners know where they can get more information (ex. “more info by calling Cooper at 555-5555) and then use your remaining words to give a reason to call your contact person. Important tip: KZYX&Z programmers read PSA's voluntarily and they choose which ones they want to read. 30 words is not a limit but you will greatly increase your chances of having your PSA read on the air if you keep it short and to the point. 2. Your PSA must contain no “calls to action”. KZYX&Z is licensed as a non-commercial radio station. If you are a business or anything other than a 501c3 nonprofit organization, phrases like “Come on down”, “Join us”, “Act now,” and ticket prices (including "free") are considered to be commercial in nature by the FCC. As a matter of station policy, we don’t allow calls to action by anyone, even nonprofits, on our airwaves, so if that language is included, your PSA will be edited. 3. Your PSA must not contain inducements, or endorsements. As a community public radio station we work hard to stay commercial free. Avoid saying things like “free T-shirts” or “the best show in town.” 4. No reference to price or value. There are ways around saying “tickets costs $15”. Instead try “tickets available by calling Evelynn 555-5555”. 5. No announcements for political fundraising or candidates of any kind. If you have announcements of a political nature, please contact our News Department so we can ensure balanced coverage of issues and candidates. 6. We can help. Call us if you have questions or concerns. Our staff has years of experience. We can guide you through the process. 7. If you are a current underwriter you cannot also submit a PSA. When we take payment from a business, individual or organization in exchange for on-air announcements, it is not allowed that we also give free air time for an unpaid public service announcement. 8. Finally, we want to know if our PSA brings results for you. So, please send us feedback after your event and let us know if we helped your attendance and participation or if it didn't. Email us at:
