Mary Aigner's Departure

Mary Aigner, Program Director for KZYX&Z, recently announced that she has decided it is time, after 22 years, to hand over the reins. She has some interesting opportunities that she wishes to explore, though she will continue to be involved with the radio station, including hosting her "Dead Air" program. As she told the volunteer programmers and her friends:

"It's been a great pleasure and an honor to work here, and I can't think of a more interesting or gratifying place to work. I'm constantly amazed by your talent, passion, and commitment to the cause of creating the best community radio we can, in service of the people of Mendocino County."

We wish Mary great success in her future endeavors. We will miss her.

Tune in to WILDOAK LIVING, the radio program about living sustainably and building community in Mendocino County and beyond. On Monday, Oct 28 at 9:00 AM Pacific Time:

Part 9 of our special series Changing Climate - Changing World:

This program continues our series about how the changing climate is changing the world we live in, locally and globally. In part Part 9, we look at the impact of climate change on the world's oceans.

On September 27, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its latest report stating that scientists are more certain than ever of the link between human activities and global warming. In the report, climate scientists now say they are at least 95 percent certain that people are responsible for majority of the climate change effects seen since the 1950s, including warming oceans, melting ice and rising sea levels.

In part 9 of our series on climate change, I talk with Daniel Richter, PhD, about how climate change is impacting the world's oceans and how changing oceans are impacting life on earth. Daniel Richter received his PhD from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He is now a Legislative Director at the Citizens Climate Lobby. Some of the topics we plan to talk about are sea level rise, ocean warming, ocean acidification, migration of ocean life, ocean currents and storms and impact of changing oceans on land weather patterns.

This series Changing Climate, Changing World on Wildoak Living is part of my contribution to education about climate change. The idea for this series was born during an interview I did with Dr. Peter Joseph in early 2012. He inspired me to check out the The Climate Reality Project, founded and chaired by
former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore. In August of 2012, I was trained by Al Gore and  The Climate Reality Project to educate about climate change and became one of more than 4000 volunteer climate leaders. You can listen to many of the previous programs of this series
